Ross-on-Wye is a market town which is set in the middle of the Wye Valley, the church with its 62 metre high spire can be seen for miles around. The main feature of the town is the 17th Century Market Hall, which is now the home of the Heritage Centre, and was one of John Kyrle's contributions to the town, along with The Prospect which is now a public garden at the back of the house where he used to live, which has a wonderful view over the river and beyond. The town also has many interesting shops together with some beautiful walks and surrounding countryside. Every year it hosts an International Festival for two weeks in August, when residents and visitors alike can enjoy music, dance and theatre from all parts of the World. Ross-on-Wye is also on the cyclists 'Lands End to John O'Groats' route, and of course it is included in the famous Wye Valley Walk, which stretches from Chepstow to Rhayader.
